| Peter F. Drucker defines
innovation as:
"change which
creates a new dimension of performance."
Innovative ideas need to possess resolve,
imagination and groundbreaking new thought. The ideas also need to be
measurable and transferable to the experiences of other nonprofits in the
field. Innovation within the nonprofit sector should be shared and
benchmarked in order to create an overall well being of society.
Take the following quiz to see how your organization is doing in terms of applying innovation. If you answer "YES" to two or more of these questions then you should be using the Innovation Diagnostix and applying for the 2004 Drucker Award.
- Our work possesses an innovative solution to challenges within our organization and the community?
- We have had to adopt new work practices, new methods or new thinking to make this project happen?
- We are proud of our accomplishments
achieved by innovation and are eager to share what we have learned with
others?
- Our work has had measurable outcomes and we can actually compare changes in our performance which show the benefits of this new way of working over our old way of working?
- Our project might have initially related to a small part of the work of the organization, but it has ultimately had a broader impact on the entire organization, the clients we serve and the community.
- We believe our work of our organization is likely to have a continuing impact over time?
- We have made a difference in other people's lives?
