Choices/Stay-in-School Program offer girls in Grade 6 the opportunity to learn through their own experience that science is fun, interesting and something they can do. The Choices/Stay-in-School Program is an annual series of one-day conferences at the University of Alberta for girls aged 11 or 12 who are in Grade 6.
Each elementary school in Edmonton chooses six girls and one teacher to attend a conference. Three of the girls are judged by their teacher to be at risk of dropping out of school in subsequent years while the other three are usually high achievers. Upon arrival at the university, each girl is provided with a log book and a pencil and time is provided during the day for the girls to write about their experience.
