The "Team Canada - Science" concept, a Canadian first, was created in 1993 as a response to a request by CWSF participants to compete internationally and as a means of benchmarking Canadian high school research projects against the achievements of international peers.
Team Canada - Science '95 membership was a Grand Award at CWSF '94 and members were selected from the pool of national medallists. There were a total of 32 high school students, 16 females and 16 males, ages 13 to 19. Selection was solely on scientific merit. Geographical distribution was an almost perfect national profile with representation from Yellowknife to Windsor, Victoria to St. John's. Each Team member had a scientific mentor's) who worked with them to improve his/her project for international competition.
