The Choices seminar helps students and those who work with them to understand youth suicide and its prevention. The Choices package includes a complete lesson plan, all necessary visuals, a brochure to be copied, useful background reading and an internationally award-winning video. The program is used in more than 100 youth suicide prevention programs across North America and serves as the foundation of a national youth suicide prevention initiative in Australia.
The Choices video invites the viewer to identify with young adults who have overcome their suicidal feelings and a family that lost a son to suicide, as they speak candidly of their experiences and insights. The video is very sensitive to diversity and also offers a dramatized example of how to help a youth in crisis. The video has won two Gold Medals in prestigious national competitions: The International Television Association and the Yorktown Broadcast and Independent Video Festival. More important, it receives very positive comments from the adults and youth who watch it.
