The Edge, an annual special event inaugurated in 1994, is a showcase for innovation and creativity in the Ottawa-Carleton region. In the quest for innovation, the organizers looked to all spheres of endeavor, such as design, fashion, performance, cuisine, technology, multimedia, and visual art.
Le Group Dance Lab is one of 20 tenants in Arts Court, a heritage courthouse owned by the City of Ottawa and refurbished as a community arts facility. It comprises office, rehearsal, performance, and gallery space. The Ottawa Arts Centre Foundation is responsible for the long-term development, communication of the Arts Court and Cultural Precinct and the programming of the theatre spaces in Arts Court.
In 1994, the executive directors of the Ottawa Arts Centre Foundation and Le Groupe Dance Lab conceived a collaborative project that would increase community awareness of the facility and its programs. In addition, the project would open opportunities for collaborations with local business and would position the Foundation and the Dance Lab as leaders in innovation through gathering other local innovators together for a single, focused event. The program, The Edge, showcases innovation that could directly impact on the lives of the attendees and participants.
