The Renfrew Victoria Hospital Hemodialysis Program is a county-wide program serving all residents of Renfrew County and surrounding area.
Hemodialysis is a life-support treatment for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Without dialysis or a kidney transplant, patients suffering from ESRD will die. Hemodialysis patients typically endure three treatments per week, with each treatment lasting approximately four hours.
The primary goal of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Hemodialysis Program is to bring more normalcy to the lives of kidney patients by offering high quality hemodialysis services in their communities.
Unlike other dialysis service delivery models, RVH sought to develop an independent program which would function in a collegial manner with other programs in the area. A program model of organization was adopted and adapted such that the program would be integrated within the overall operation of the hospital. Furthermore, a team approach was fostered from the beginning. Together, these methods of implementation have synergistically built a strong program.
