"It's Not Fair!" was a three-week exhibit of Bosnian children's art organized in partnership with The Institute of Child Study, University of Toronto and Young Peoples' Theatre. The purpose was to teach young Canadians the fundamental rules of international humanitarian law (IHL) and instil values which would shape their current and future action vis-à-vis armed conflict worldwide.
The art pieces, depicting personal experiences of war, were created by Bosnian children representing all sides of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. The art was loaned to the Region Office by The International Committee of the Red Cross in Zagreb. A simple commentary on the basic rules of IHL to accompany the exhibit was prepared by the Region Office.
The Institute promoted the event within Toronto schools, scheduled class visits and used their expertise to prepare relevant curriculum materials for use by teachers following their class visit.
Promotional material sent to all major print and visual media in Toronto was widely picked up, resulting in dissemination to a broad audience within the community.
