The Alberta Literacy helpline is a toll-free link to more than 350 literacy programs across Alberta. Its mandate is to answer questions from any Albertan on literacy and related issues, with particular emphasis on assisting adults with low skills find available programs and services in their own areas.
The Helpline provides volunteers with training information and contacts. It also maintains and distributes current statistics and research on literacy and how it affects the economy and lives. Information is given on possible solutions to literacy-related concerns and provide businesses with plain language information to enhance their own communication strategies. In addition, research resources and programs keep lists of key contact people and provide information to assist teachers, parents, educational administrations, media, curriculum planners and businesses.
Whatever the question, the Helpline endeavours to find the answers through research or by providing the caller with an appropriate resource or contact name.
