CODE Inc. is a commercial enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of CODE. Created in 1987 to manage the purchasing and shipping needs of CODE and other Canadian NGOs, CODE Inc. was restructured in 1990 to offer expanded services to a larger, more diverse clientele.
CODE Inc. has evolved as a logistical management group serving non-governmental organizations, multilateral agencies such as the United Nations and World Bank, and the private sector. Since 1990, it has also developed a unique and profitable business niche in supplying election materials to emerging democracies.
CODE Inc. further expanded its revenue base by managing the order processing of all publications for the International Development Research Centre in 1993, and by purchasing Raptim Canada Inc., a travel agency that grants subsidies to missionaries, clergy, and NGOs in 1994.
CODE Inc.’s newest initiative is the Book Development Division. A consulting service specializing in studies of educational publishing and related training in developing countries, it is a natural extension of CODE’s experience with publishing industries around the world.
Successful operations such as these, along with its traditional procurement and shipping services, have enabled CODE Inc. to make larger financial contributions to CODE’s literacy-related efforts in developing countries.
