Youth Service Canada (YSC) project is designed to engage young people to promote and educate the community on the values of Community Safety and Crime Prevention, while gaining skills to increase their own sense of empowerment and ultimately, their ability to find meaningful employment.
To accomplish this, participants are trained extensively in public speaking and presentation skills. They are also thoroughly trained by our partners in this project, the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Participants then cover the community and begin a public education program. Presentations are made across the spectrum of community members to people from the ages of five to 95.
Drop-in Program for youth in lower income neighbourhoods, and under development is a program educating community members on the problem of 'Recruiters' for child prostitution rings who have recently invaded our city.
These programs assist youth to establish occupational goals that are realistic and attainable; increase knowledge and awareness of community issues; provide youth with an opportunity to contribute, in a meaningful way, to their quality of life and the quality of life in their community; provide the community with exposure to the good works of their youth population; and break down barriers and myths held by youth regarding the community and the community regarding youth.
